【Joyful@Healthy Workplace】Online Open Seminar on Investigation of the Impact of Face Mask Breathability and Comfortability on Physiological Responses for Wearers with Physical Demands and the Exercise under Epidemic
In view of the development of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, compulsory face masks policies in public areas were set in order to curb the spread of the virus. To many, especially to those who engage in manual work, it is strenuous to wear a mask for extended periods of time. Therefore, apart from the protection level of face masks, their breathability and comfortability also matter to users. In view of this, Occupational Safety and Health Council has commissioned the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to conduct an in-depth study on the impact of differences in breathability and the shape of masks on physiological responses for wearers undergoing work or workouts that are physically demanding. The study provides some suggestions, with scientific evidence, to employers and employees when choosing the appropriate type of masks. The Occupational Safety and Health Council will hold an online seminar on 3 May 2022, at which the professor of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the consultant of the Council will introduce the information of the study. Dr. Louie Hung-tak Lobo, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Health and Physical Education at The Education University of Hong Kong, will recommend some simple and easy-to-learn physical activities that are suitable in office and at home, thereby encouraging people to maintain a healthy lifestyle under the epidemic. All are welcome.
